Flights from the UK to Costa Rica

Direct flights are not available from the UK to Costa Rica. Instead, all flights go via the USA, or via Madrid four times a week. These are the best connecting airlines to San Jose, Costa Rica:

American Airlines

Daily flights run from London Heathrow via Miami to San Jose. There are also some flights available from Manchester via Miami to San Jose.

Continental Airlines

Daily flights operate from London Gatwick via Newark or Houston to San Jose. There are also flights from Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol and Glasgow; all of which fly via Newark to San Jose.

Delta Airlines

Daily flights from London Gatwick via Atlanta to San Jose.

Iberia Airlines

Flights available four times a week from London Heathrow via Madrid to San Jose.

Domestic flights

A domestic flight network operates via San Jose.

Private transfers

You can be driven between hotels by an English-speaking driver who will provide you with all sorts of information on Costa Rica and its people, stopping en route at places of interest. Unless you require his services, he will then leave you to your own devices whilst staying at the hotels.

4X4 vehicle self-drive

It is perfectly safe to drive in Costa Rica, although it can be tiring due to bad road conditions. Having a 4X4 gives you the opportunity to explore the country on your own.

Non-private tourist bus service

This service will collect you from your hotel and take you to your next destination. This option is cheaper and can be sociable, but each transfer will take longer as other passengers will be picked up and dropped off at various other hotels.
