Cayos

There are many small, secluded islands surrounding Cuba’s mainland that, collectively, are known as Cayos. Along the north east coast, there is Cayo Santa Maria, which offers good internationally managed hotels. Cayo Levisa is the complete opposite of the big resort hotels- this is a small island with only 1 hotel on it with basic beach cabanas. This is a great options for a couple of days after or before visiting the Vinales Valley. There are normal facilities here- no swimming pool, however guests have the ocean to enjoy. The downside of staying on any of the Cayos is that you may be in a beautiful hotel but Cubans generally do not live in these areas so you have no real sense of the country you are in.
