Equatorial Line

"A great photo opportunity, on my 1st trip I straddled the line & then last year I lay along it - not sure what to do next time!"

A must during your stay in Quito is a visit to The Equatorial Line – where you can stand with one foot in the southern and the other in the northern Hemispheres. The Equatorial Monument, which marks the exact middle of the world, latitude 0º, is situated 16 miles North of Quito. Visit the Ethnographic Museum inside the monument, which shows the different Native American groups living in Ecuador.

Beside the monument there is a colonial-style town, complete with main square, church, post office, bullring, cafeterias, restaurants and gift shops. You will get a certificate for having crossed the Equator. A tour to the equatorial line includes walking at an altitude of 9200 feet and climbing stairs.
