East Coast & Nosy Be

Antananarivo (1nt), Andasibe (2nts), Nosy Be (3nts)

This tour takes you from the highlands of Antananarivo down through the forested Perinet region and on to the flat coastal plains of Eastern Madagascar and the Pangalanes Canal. You will certainly discover a wide variety of Lemurs and other endemic species. You will notice the difference between the landscape of the inland highland and coastal belt. You will also be fascinated by the diversity of the population. To finish, enjoy a beach stay on Nosy Be, where various boat trips can be arranged to neighbouring islets.

Day 1: Arrival into Antananarivo

On arrival into Antananarivo, you will be met and greeted by our agents and transferred to the IC Hotel for your overnight stay on bed & breakfast.

Day 2: Antananarivo / Andasibe

After breakfast, you will head to the eastern part to Andasibe through the green and lush landscape. On the way visit the private reserve of Domaine Pyereras where you will see different kinds of chameleons, snakes, lemurs and butterflies. Drive southward across the highland landscape with its beautiful rice-fields and spectacular eroded hills you arrive at Vakona Forest Lodge for your overnight stay on bed & breakfast.

Day 3: Andasibe

Visit the Special Reserve of Andasibe. This special reserve has endemic fauna and flora. The highlight is without doubt to observe the Indi Indri lemur, the largest lemur and known for its spectacular whooping calls. After the visit you will walk into the Orchidea Park to admire beautiful flowers. Later visit the private reserve of Vakona. Overnight stay at the Vakona Forest Lodge on bed & breakfast.

Day 4: Andasibe – Antananarivo – Nosy Be

After breakfast you will head back to Antananarivo for a flight to Nosy Be. Nosy Be is the ideal place for sugar, pepper and vanilla plantations which are the main source for exportation. The main characteristic of Nosy Be is the strong scent of Ylang Ylang blossoms giving it the name of the ‘Perfumed Island’. Afternoon city tour of Nosy Be, with a visit to a Ylang Ylang distillery. Overnight at the Hotel Amarina on half board.

 

Day 5-6: Nosy Be

Many excursions are possible to the many isles around Nosy Be. One of them is the combination of Nosy Komba & Nosy Tanikely. Komba is named as the Kingdom of Black Lemurs, a place where you can see the lemur’s maccacco maccacco which are endemic in the north. Within the small village you will see much embroidery made by local women to sell to the tourists coming to the isle, then continuation to Nosy Tanikely, the best spot for snorkelling, diving and fishing. Overnight back at the Hotel Amarina on half board.

Day 7: Nosy Be – Antananarivo

Transfer to the airport of Nosy Be to fly back to Antananarivo for your return flight home.
