Madagascan Independence Day marks the country's independence from France on the 26th June. Fireworks and a laser show at Lake Anosy takes place on the first day with a Military Parade and concert taking place on the second day at Mahamasina Stadium. This tour has been designed to include the celebrations taking place in Antananarivo with an exploration down south to Isalo National Park.
On arrival at Antananarivo Airport at approximately 21:45, you will be transferred to the IC Hotel for your overnight stay on bed & breakfast.
After a very early breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport for a 5am flight to Tulear, the largest province of Madagascar and also the 3rd main harbour. Tuléar is a lovely and animated city known for its spectacular shell market. After a short city tour you will be driven to Isalo. The scenery changes from thorny bushes to Table Mountain. Overnight at Satrana Lodge on bed & breakfast.
After breakfast you will enjoy a day visit of Isalo National Park with a very spectacular eroded sandstone mountain. Drive to Ranohira village. Walk and climb to appreciate a very spectacular view of this huge sandstone mountain with its colors. The Sifaka, a brown and ring-tailed lemur can be encountered at random along with species of birds, lizards and snakes. End your day at the natural springs with stunning crystal water, a great reward after a long and tiresome walk! Overnight at Satrana Lodge on bed & breakfast.
Morning drive eastward to the town of Ihosy the capital of Bara tribes, the shepherds of Zebu. The mountain chain of Andringitra, which serves as a transition between the dry south and the green highland appears. One of the most spectacular is the huge granite dome with twin rock towers. You will continue to Ranomafana passing Fianarantsoa - the intellectual centre of the country. Fianarantsoa has a strong Catholic influence and is the second biggest city after Antananarivo. The landscape is dominated by rice fields, forest of pine and eucalyptus forests and mountains of rock. Overnight at Setam Lodge on half board.
Morning visit of the National Park of Ranomafana. Taking its name from the village, the National Park encompasses one of the last remaining great expanses of the eastern rainforest. The area is dominated by the Namorona River which is fed by many streams flowing from the hills, plunges from the eastern escarpment close to the park entrance. One of the highlight is the recently discovered Golden Bamboo Lemur. Greater Bamboo Lemurs and the striking Milne-Edwards Diadem Sifaka Lemur can be seen. Overnight Setam Lodge on half board.
This morning you will travel to Antsirabe. The route takes across the highland landscape with impressive rice-fields and spectacular eroded hills. The landscape is similar to that of the Far East with its rice fields and green landscapes covered with vegetable and fruit plantations. Overnight Couleur Café on bed & breakfast.
After breakfast, visit a lapidary of semi-precious gems, a workshop making pousse pousse and cars in miniature. You will then attend the preparation of the Independence Day in Antsirabe. Later this evening, you will enjoy the famous fireworks in the city, from the queen's palace. Afterwards, you will join the “Avenue de independence” for the big show in the railway station. Overnight Tana Plaza on bed & breakfast.
In the morning, you will be driven to Mahamasina, the stadium where the Military Parade takes place. In the afternoon, drive to the Avenue de independence for another enjoyable show. Day use of room at Tana Plaza. At 9pm, you will be transferred to the airport, for your international flight to Paris.
At 00.50, your flight with Air France will depart for Paris.
