Situated on the beautiful Andovoke bay, the Anakao Ocean Lodge is the perfect stop at the end of your journey south from Antananarivo down through the highlands of Madagascar.  Splendid by day, unforgettable at sunset, it is the best place from which to admire the setting of the sun.

Not far away, the beautiful island of Nosy Be is home to a breeding colony of red-tailed topic birds and is a great spot for snorkelling from the white, shell laden sands.

The resort is entirely built with local material, combining white stone with rosewood timber. Its 25 chalets are distributed in two rows, one right on the beach and the other on an higher position to guarantee the beautiful view of the sea, are all decorated with simplicity and elegance in harmony with the surrounding environment. They all have mosquito nets, air conditioning, minibar, private bathroom with shower, hairdryer.   There is an outside terrace for time off, just relax or read a book, or simply enjoy the nature all around.

WEATHER

Between May and October is the dry season where the weather is sunny and temperatures high, wake up to beautiful blue skies in the morning. Caps, sunscreen and light clothes are recommended.

ACCOMMODATION

There are 13 sea view and 7 sea front chalets with straw roofs and octagonal in shape to help ensure natural, fresh ventilation. Alternatively each chalet has its own internal air conditioning to suit requirements. The large windows offer stunning views towards the Ocean which is only a few steps away from these beautiful chalets. Complete with electricity and telephones hot desalinated water is available all day via a solar panel system.

Three family chalets and one luxury suite are also available.

WHAT TO DO

There are a number of activities available on the resort including diving, snorkelling, kayaking and jet skis. Fishing and whale watching are also available allowing you to admire the stunning movement of whales through the Mozambique Channel between the months of July and September.

Visit the Tsimanampetsotsa National Park by quad bike and discover the astounding scenery and biology of winged creatures and other wildlife. A wetland area covers over 43,000 hectares and is protected by the London International Convention. The quad bike excursions include trips to the lake, baobab trees or to the spectacular beach of Ambula.

LOCATION

Anakao Ocean Lodge is located on the Mozambique Channel, south of the Tropic of Capricorn. The area is protected with National Park status and can only be accessed by boat. The small town of Toliara acts as port for the island and can be reached in about 45 minutes. Flights can be arranged from Antananarivo, Fort Dauphin or Morondava. As you travel to the lodge you can forget about crowded areas and relax on the beautiful Andovoke bay or explore the half long coral for a tranquil walk. The amazing waves from the sea offer crystal-like waters with emerald reflections.
