Lagarta Lodge is a new boutique hotel located in Nosara, Guanacaste, on the Nicoya Peninsula, this area has been designated as one on the world’s five “Blue Zones” where people live the longest and happiest lives. We say it is new but the owners have had a lodge here for several years and in 2016 they have completely rebuilt the Lodge to reopen in 2017 as a luxury eco boutique property. It is located in a non-tourist area with a private biological reserve with nearly 90 acres 5-10 minute walk from the hotel, an ideal place for birdwatching. The location is perfect with spectacular ocean and tropical forest views, with the charming beaches of Pelada, Guiones and San Juanillo minutes away. The staff & management are 100% service oriented & the operation is fully sustainable. The hotel has been certified by the Costa Rican Tourist Board with the highest sustainable certification, 5 leaves. The Swiss owners and the Costa Rican management team are not focused on maximum profits: a percentage of the room rates goes toward projects that promote education and conservation in Costa Rica.

Lagarta Lodge is situated amidst untouched nature on Costa Rica’s Nicoya peninsula. The hotel-owned nature reserve Reserva Biológica offers guests the opportunity to become acquainted with native plants and animals.

The Rio Nosara borders on the hotel-owned nature reserve Reserva biológica that covers nearly ninety acres. As a guest, you may join a guided tour or have free access to the well-marked paths. They also provide you with a chart containing information on plants and trees. The mornings offer especially good opportunities to make exciting sightings on this roughly two-hour walk: there are numerous birds, howler monkeys, anteaters, coatis, raccoons, iguanas, butterflies, and insects. Guests will delight in the reserve’s biodiversity and its unique combination of subtropical dry forests and mangrove thickets. Or take a tour with an electric boat or a kayak on the Rio Nosara and Rio Montaña to discover the incomparable beauty of Costa Rica. If you’re lucky, you may even see a crocodile!
