Peninsula Valdes

ABOUT PENINSULA VALDES

Within the Patagonia region the Peninsula Valdes is one of the most important wildlife reserves in the country and was designated a World Heritage site in 1999. It is the breeding ground for the endangered southern right whales, Magellanic penguins, elephant seals, sea lions and the nesting site for thousands of shore birds – including pelicans and cormorants. The whale season runs from May to November with the high season months being September, October and November. Magellan penguins are here from September to April & all year round there are the elephant seals, sea lions, killer whales (Orcas) etc.
Nearby is the Punta Tombo reserve, which is home to a large penguin colony. Visitors to this area generally fly into Trelew and stay in the town of Puerto Madryn or at the wonderful El Pedral Lodge – a combination stay is also an excellent idea. This is a very special area and we are happy to share our in depth knowledge of the region including the best time to visit and our favourite hotels.
