Makanda means nectar or extract in ancient Sanskrit its where paradise was found. As the saying goes: “the name is a destiny” and it is over 20 years as we present an extract of paradise.


Makanda by the Sea is located 1 km from the main road between Quepos and Manuel Antonio National Park. It’s rooms are very private and individually designed. It has a magnificent infinity swimming pool and a path leading down through the jungle to a secluded beach. There are only 9 rooms which are hidden in the natural jungle and Japanese gardens, this is an ideal place for honeymooners. Breakfast is delivered outside your door in a cool box, inside is fresh fruit, fruit juice, bread, muffins, fresh coffee beans, jam, butter etc.. In your room there is a small kitchen area with a toaster, coffee maker, fridge etc. and you eat at leisure. Dining options include; Sunspot Bar & Grill and Arbol Restaurant.

The Shanti Spa is inspired by Costa Rica’s nature and is Makanda’s place of total comfort, relaxation and good vibes only. It is a detached spa that is located on a private terrace with views over a private bay and round forest. The Shanti Spa interior is made up of only natural materials: ocean stones, natural wood, bamboo, shells – everything that helps to relax and feel connection with amazing nature. Private yoga lessons, outside relaxing zone with beach beds and massage spot, comfort zone with big Jacuzzi and exclusive natural wood steaming room are also included.
